For the next gathering in Black Joy Kitchen’s Chef’s Table Series,
Chef Ting and the Black Joy Kitchen team invite you to the table for an evening inspired by
the coastal beauty and layered culinary heritage of Zanzibar and Lamu.
This dinner unfolds like the rhythm of the Indian Ocean—warm, aromatic, and deeply rooted in history.
Expect fragrant spices, slow-simmered stews, grilled seafood, coconut-rich broths, and bright notes of citrus and tamarind—flavors shaped by generations of Swahili cooking and centuries of cultural exchange across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
Each course tells a story of the islands—where clove and cardamom linger in the air, where rice and fish are transformed
into something deeply soulful, and where recipes are passed down, refined, and shared across tables near and far.
These are flavors that have quietly influenced global cuisine, carried through trade winds and memory.
This is a table rooted in heritage, warmth, and connection.
Plates arrive with intention. Stories unfold naturally.
The evening moves like the tide—steady, generous, and inviting you to savor not just the food,
but the history, the people, and the spirit of the coast.
